I taste a bunch-o-wine (technical term for more than most people). So each week, I share some of my wine reviews (mostly from samples) and tasting notes in a “mini-review” format.
They are meant to be quirky, fun, and (mostly) easily-digestible reviews of (mostly) currently available wines (click here for the skinny on how to read them), so you can get right to the point and decide if they’re for you (or not). Cheers!
- NV Dow’s 20 Year Tawny Port (Porto): Still the rich, caramel infused Mac Daddy of Tawnies. $70 A-
- 2019 Rozes ‘Terras do Grifo’ Riserve Tinto (Douro): Yummy! Lots of red fruit and spice, and tastiness to spare. $16 B+
- 2021 Quinta de Roriz ‘Prazo de Roriz’ (Douro): A nice intro to classic Douro stills: fresh, fruity, & vivacious, with hints of leather and baking spices. $19 B
- 2020 Carpineto Dogajolo (Toscana): Tangy, with ample verve—and ample grip, too. $15 B
- 2023 Piera Martellozzo ‘Terre Magre’ Ribolla Gialla (Colli Orientali del Friuli): Lovely, lively, lifted. Floral, with tropical and citrus fruit notes. More, please! $NA B+
- 2023 Piera Martellozzo ‘Terre Magre’ Refosco (Colli Orientali del Friuli): Wel, this is classic: bright, spicy, and boldly structured. $NA B+
- 2022 Paul Cullen Moscato d’Asti (Piedmont): Rockin’ and irresistible combo of ripe pears and fresh flowers. $NA B+
- 2017 Galen Glen Vineyard and Winery ‘Stone Cellar’ Cabernet Franc (Pennsylvania): Green, lean and sporting mean dark fruits. $25 B+
- 2015 Chronic Cellars ‘Sofa King Bueno’ Red (Paso Robles): That’s a spicy meatball!! And true to its name, as well. $23 B+
- 2019 Coen Malbec Classic (Uco Valley): A little on the greener/funkier side, but the red tangy fruit on the palate is a winner. $25 B+
