Welcome to the Weekly Wine Quiz, peoples!
Standard disclaimer: based on feedback from ever-so-vocal-and-intelligent peeps like you, I supply the quiz question each week, but I do *not* supply the quiz answer immediately. YOU supply your choice for the answer in the comments, and then tune back in later today in the comments section for the official answer. Which might be delayed due to my travels (yes, again).
“Winning!” – The U.S. is no stranger to winning wine awards. One of the most decorated wines from the U.S. in the 1800s was made from what grape?
A. Cabernet Sauvignon
B. Norton
C. Chardonnay
D. Concord
Cheers, and good luck!
D
Kramden's Pal
Good one, Joe.
I'd say it was catawba, but then I noticed your wording "one of the most decorated…" and relaized it could be a few others like the red cat.
I think it was B, Norton grape.
Gotta go with B also.
I'll say D because I have no idea and D is just my favorite!
Wow, it must be early… I meant A was my favorite. oops.
The answer is Norton.
Now that I think of it, "most decorated" isn't much of a pinpoint phrase without context ;)
Norton
We split the votes a bit this week. Here's the Official Wine Quiz Answer:
B. Norton
According to Richard Leahy's book Beyond Jefferson's Wine, the Monticello wine company, founded in Charlottesville in 1873, won numerous national and international awards for its Norton-based "Virginia claret."
