Welcome to the Weekly Wine Quiz!
Based on feedback from ever-so-vocal-and-intelligent peeps like you, I do not supply the quiz answer directly in the post – you will need to tune back in later in the comments section for the answer. Which once again might be delayed, since this week I’m on the road in Rioja… which is where today’s quiz will be taking you!
Prepare For Battle!
Which city in Spain’s Rioja winemaking region is famous for its annual ritual in which attendees douse each other with wine?
- A. Logrono
- B. Calahorra
- C. Najera
- D. Haro
Cheers – and good luck!
of course, Haro
Thanks!
And the answer is… Haro!
Haro's main tourist attraction is called the Wine Battle, taking place June 29 with a short pilgrimage to the Bilibio Crags, followed by a mass in honor of Saint Felices and then total chaos as everyone douses one another with wine. It's been called the Wine Battle since 1949, but the pilgrimage dates back to the 16th century. More coverage of the 2012 event forthcoming!
Don't know why, but this time without using Google or reading through the comments section, my first inclination was Haro – glad to see this was actually the correct answer :) Cheers!
Thanks, Anatoli – wait until you see the video! :)
