Just a quick-hit update today to let you know that my latest piece for Napa Valley Wine Academy is live. This one, titled Chile’s Carignan Renaissance, was particularly fun for me to put together, reuniting me with some long-time contacts in Chile’s burgeoning smaller-producer scene, and allowing me to taste samples of (and wax pseudo-philosophically about) what I consider that country’s best red wine grape.
The article focuses on VIGNO, a multi-producer effort that is simultaneously trying to showcase the potential of old-vine, dry-farmed Carignan in Chile, improve the livelihood of the Maule region’s Carignan farmers, save this wonderful grape variety from extinction in the country, and potentially create an entirely new, unique wine appellation.
You can check out the piece at the above link, preferably with a glass of Carignan in one hand…
Cheers!
