We’re interrupting the usual Monday mini-review roundup this week to instead point you to a different location for an altogether different set of wine reviews: my latest article for Napa Valley Wine Academy’s Pouring Points blog is now available, and it highlights both an unsung red grape variety and an unsung wine-growing region.
Specifically, we discuss the ins-and-outs of Lemberger, a.k.a. Blaufränkisch, a.k.a., “the blue wine of the Franks” as crafted by some of the better producers in the Garden State’s Outer Coastal Plain AVA. How’s that one for off-the-beaten-path, eh?!?
I don’t know how much cash is sitting in my wallet at this moment, but I’m willing to bet a large portion of it that most of you reading this don’t consider yourselves familiar with either the grape or the NJ wine scene. Based on my tasting, NJ continues to evolve as U.S. wine region in positive strides, and with Blaufränkisch they might have just found their Groove Machine in vinous form. So… head on over to read it, and learn something, already!
